This course starts where you have never opened Chart Compass and ends with you choosing charts the way a good analyst does: from the message first, then the data, and with a reason you can give when someone asks for a pie chart.
Each lesson is short and does one job. By the end you can take any table, from a monthly sales sheet to a list of 240 customer ages, and know which chart to build, which to avoid, and which fields go where.
What you will be able to do
- Get a chart recommendation for your own data in under two minutes
- Paste data from Excel or Google Sheets, or open a CSV, check that every column was read right, and lay it out for charts like a Gantt, a Sankey or a candlestick
- Say what a chart should show, using the eleven goals every chart answers to
- Read the advice: the best fit, the good alternatives, the charts to skip and why
- Build the chart in Power BI, Tableau or Excel with the right visual and the right fields in each well
- Browse all 50 charts on the chart map, and learn when each one helps and when it misleads
Who it is for
Anyone who makes charts for reports, dashboards or slides: analysts, BI developers, people in finance, sales and operations, students, and managers who want their numbers read the right way. You need no account and no software. Power BI Desktop, Tableau or Excel helps for lesson 5, but you can follow without them.
