Icon Studio holds eight open-source sets. Searching all of them at once is the fastest way to find an icon; choosing one set is the best way to keep a project consistent. This lesson shows both.
All sets, or one
Under Sets on the left, every set is listed with how many icons it has. Icon Studio opens on Lucide. Press All sets at the top of the list to search all eight at once, or press another set to search only that one. Next time you open Icon Studio, it starts where you left off.
| Set | Icons | Styles | Looks like |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lucide | 2,121 | Outline | Clean outlines, the web app favourite |
| Tabler | 5,809 | Outline, filled | The biggest choice; mixes well with Lucide |
| Phosphor | 1,434 per weight | Thin, light, regular, bold, fill, duotone | Six weights of every icon |
| Fluent | about 5,000 | Regular, filled | Microsoft's look, Windows and Office |
| Heroicons | 324 | Outline, solid | From the makers of Tailwind CSS |
| Bootstrap | about 2,000 | Regular, fill | Bootstrap's own set |
| Iconoir | 1,585 | Regular, solid | Simple, even outlines |
| Material Symbols | 3,926 per style | Outlined, rounded, sharp, each filled or not | Google's look, Android and Material Design |
Pick a style
Under Style, choose how the icons are drawn. With all sets, there are two: Outline and Filled, and each set shows its own matching style. With one set, you see all of that set's styles, such as Phosphor's six weights.
A common pattern is outline for everyday icons and filled for the active state: an outline heart, and a filled heart once something is liked. Sets that have both make this easy.
Browse by topic
Not sure what to search for? Click Topic and pick from the list, A to Z, with over 100 topics such as analytics, bank, calendar, team or weather. Type in the box to narrow the list. A topic searches the icons tagged with it, in the sets and style you chose.
Search tips
- Use plain words. user finds more than profile avatar person.
- Try the opposite. No logout? Search exit or door.
- Search the thing, not the action. trash for delete, pencil for edit, floppy or device for save.
- Narrow last. Search all sets first, see which set has the best match, then press that set to find the rest of your icons in the same family.
Stay in one family
Icons from one set share a grid, a stroke width and a corner style. Mixing sets in one interface usually shows: one icon looks heavier or rounder than the next. Pick your set after the first two or three searches, then press it so every later search stays inside it. If one icon is missing, Lucide and Tabler mix best, since they share a 24-pixel grid and 2-pixel strokes.
Next: making the icon yours.
