Customize image prompts: placeholders, details, aspect ratio

Use Customize in Prompt Gallery to fill a prompt's placeholders, add your own details and set the aspect ratio, and know exactly what it changes in the prompt you copy.

Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play. Then Google receives your IP address and may set its own storage. Narrated with an AI-generated voice. Privacy

A prompt from the gallery made one picture. Customize makes it make yours: your brand name, your colours, your extra details, the shape you need. It changes the text in front of you, so you always see the exact prompt you will copy.

Open Customize

Open any prompt in Prompt Gallery. Under the prompt, open Customize. It has up to four parts:

  • A field for each placeholder in the prompt
  • Add your own details
  • Aspect ratio
  • Apply my brand kit (the next lesson)

As you change anything, the prompt above updates and a Customized label appears, so you can see it is no longer the original.

Every change shows in the prompt before you copy it.

Fill the placeholders

Placeholders are words in square brackets (or curly brackets) in the prompt, like [Your Brand] or [primary brand colour]. Customize gives each one a field, labelled with its name. Type your value and it replaces the placeholder in the prompt.

Leave a field empty and the placeholder stays as it is. The most common placeholders are:

PlaceholderPut in
[Your Brand]Your company or product name
[primary brand colour]Your main colour, as a name or hex, like deep teal #0f766e
[accent colour]Your second colour
[heading font]A font style, like a geometric sans serif

Add your own details

Add your own details takes anything the prompt does not cover: a detail of the scene, a mood, an object that must appear. Your text is added at the end of the prompt as one line starting with "Also:".

Also: add a small golden retriever sitting at the person's feet.

Keep it to one or two short sentences. A long addition competes with the prompt's own instructions.

Set the aspect ratio

Aspect ratio sets the shape of the image:

ChoiceGood for
As writtenWhatever the prompt already says
1:1 squareProfile pictures, feed posts
4:5 portrait postPortrait posts in social feeds
3:2 photoClassic photo prints and blog images
16:9 wideSlides, video thumbnails, website heroes
9:16 storyStories, reels and phone wallpapers

If the prompt already names a ratio, it is replaced wherever it appears: an "Aspect ratio 4:5" line, a phrase like "vertical 4:5 framing" (which becomes "widescreen 16:9 framing" when you pick 16:9) and Midjourney's --ar. Otherwise a line with your ratio is added at the end. In a Midjourney prompt, your details and the ratio always go before the parameters, so the prompt still runs. Some tools also have a ratio setting of their own; when they do, set it there too.

Copy the right version

Inside the open prompt, Copy prompt copies your customized version. The quick Copy prompt on a card in the grid always copies the original, unchanged. The negative prompt has its own Copy button.

Reset clears your fields, your details and the ratio, and switches Apply my brand kit off (for every prompt, until you tick it again), so you are back to the original. Your brand details are kept.

Your customization belongs to the prompt you have open. Open another prompt and you start fresh, except for the brand kit, which the next lesson sets up once for every prompt.
