The status line is the line of live information Claude Code shows under its prompt: the model, the folder, the git branch, how full the context window is, what the session costs. Statusline Studio builds it for you. You design it in the browser, and it writes the script.
Open the studio and look at the preview
Open Statusline Studio. The dark strip at the top is your status line, drawn the way Claude Code will show it, with the sample data of a session in progress.
Everything you change shows up there straight away. You can also work in it directly: click a segment to edit it, drag it to move it, and press Delete to remove it.
Start from a template
On the right, Templates are finished designs. Click one to load it. Pick the one closest to what you want; you change everything about it in the next steps.
Theme next to it sets the colour palette, the separators between segments, the icons (text, emoji or Nerd Font) and the preview font, for every segment at once.
Add the segments you want
On the left are the segments: model, cost, context window, git, rate limits, session, machine and more, 75 of them in groups. Search for one, or open a group, and click it to add it. Drag one onto a line to put it exactly where you want.
Click a segment in your layout to edit it: its label, its icon, its colour, and for numbers whether it shows as a number, a bar or a colour that turns from green to red.
Arrange your lines
In Layout, each line is a row of chips. Drag chips to reorder them or to move them to another line (with the keyboard, focus a chip and use the arrow keys), and use Add line for up to four lines. A common split: git on the first line, the gauges and the cost on the second.
Check the script
Generated code shows the script your design makes, in Bash, Python or Node.js. All three print the same line; pick the one your machine has. Bash with jq is the usual choice on macOS and Linux; on Windows, pick Python or Node.js, since Git Bash does not include jq.
Install it with one command
Click Copy install command in the bar at the top, paste it into a bash or zsh terminal (in fish, type bash first; on Windows, use Git Bash, not PowerShell) and press Enter. No Git Bash on Windows yet? winget install Git.Git installs it, and Claude Code uses it for the status line once it is there. It saves the script to ~/.claude/, turns it on in ~/.claude/settings.json and backs up your old settings and status line script first. Start Claude Code, and your status line is there.
